David Askew is the Skill Owner for Manufacturing Tooling at Rolls-Royce plc, working with academia and industry to develop and adopt best in class tooling technology to innovate manufacture and assembly of Civil Aerospace gas turbines.

PRESENTATION – Supply Chain Toolmaking requirements for medical device moulding

​Bob Barton is Process Innovations Manager for mould tooling at Bespak. Bob has spent over 20 years at Bespak, heading up the tooling innovations team specialising in DfM (Design for Manufacture).

This work is all ISO13485 compliant for the medical device sector; clinical and commercial-scale drug product fill-finish, to device and component manufacturing.

PRESENTATION – Manufacturing opportunities for UK electric vehicle batteries and components

One of the UK’s best-known motoring faces, Quentin was a Top Gear presenter for over a decade, wrote and presented BBC2’s The Car’s The Star, started Channel 5’s Fifth Gear, created the Britain’s Worst Driver format (now shown in 14 international territories) and The Classic Car Show.

His knowledge on new, used, electric and classic cars is industry leading but he is also a vocal campaigner for electric vehicles

Dr. Luka Sterle  Patented cooling system for machining wrought and printed titanium (ArcLub – One)

ArcLub One is a highly versatile single-channel system based on liquid carbon dioxide. It allows precise control over cooling and lubricating effects with wide MQL lubricant compatibility. Replacing conventional metalworking fluids, liquid carbon dioxide-based machining can yield higher productivity and process cleanliness through optimised machining-specific conditions.

Jenny has a strong track record in leadership roles within the organisation. She is passionate about helping Irish companies to innovate and grow and supporting Ireland’s entrepreneurs to achieve their ambition.

 

Gerry Reynolds

 Set up Takumi Precision in 1998 after working for Fujitsu for 10 years. Currently  Takumi has 115 employees and has evolved into on of the leading providers of sub contract machining services in Ireland.

Since 2012 Takumi have targeted the Aerospace sector as a key area for growth. the requirements of the sector in terms of batch production and model-based manufacture and inspection are an ideal match for Takumi. Medical device manufacturing of implants and instruments remains a key component of Takumi’s revenues.

Gerry became chairperson of the PTMA representing machining and tooling suppliers in 2024.

Dr Alan Arthur

Alan has been CEO of the GTMA since July 2022. GTMA is a UK-based trade association representing leading companies in precision engineering, rapid product development, toolmaking, tooling technologies, metrology and other critical manufacturing related products and services. Alan is a Chartered Engineer, embracing a range of technical disciplines across manufacturing, mechanical, and civil engineering.  He has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. Over 40 years Alan has worked on a wide range of products and services, with international experience in project delivery and supply chain management.

 

Jackie O’Dowd

Jackie is currently the Regional Manager for the Mid West region for IDA Ireland covering 153 IDA clients in Limerick , Clare and Tipperary across all IDA Sectors.

She returned to the Mid-West  after spending 3 years as VP for Financial Services based in Frankfurt with IDA Ireland overseeing a client portfolio of  international financial services companies, with significant operations in Ireland. Prior to joining the Financial Services team in Frankfurt Jackie managed corporate relationships with IDA strategic clients in the Insurance sector in Ireland. Jackie has experience in helping global companies leverage Ireland as part of their internationalisation strategy.

Stephen Kinsella

Stephen Kinsella is Professor of Economics at the University of Limerick, Head of the Department of Economics, and Research Associate at the Rhodes Centre for International Finance at Brown University. He co-directs the Immersive Software Engineering programme.

He also leads the +CityxChange, INCASE and SMARTLAB research projects for UL and is very interested in smart cities, new regional collaborations, economic networks, and in bringing thinking around natural capital into mainstream economic thinking.
